Race Target: Newport Rhode Races on April 13, 2024 - Half Marathon or 5k
The goal of the 15-week program is to train for a spring road race in Newport, RI -- either a half marathon (13.1 miles) or a 5k (3.1 miles).
You can sign up these races click here and use our team name "WrenthamRunners" to receive of $5-$15 rebate depending on how many ultimately sign-up.   Choose the option of race day bib pick-up if you don't want to have to make 2 trips down to Newport.  We will look to organize carpools or group transportation from Wrentham on race day.

Community Training Runs
We will meet for Community Training Runs each Saturday at 8am at the Little Red Schoolhouse parking lot  (944 West Street, Sheldonville) starting Saturday Jan 6th until Saturday April 6th for a total of 14 group runs.   The flat and generally car-free training course will be out and back on Burnt Swamp Road.  Runners are encouraged to run the distance and pace with which they are comfortable, according to their individualized training plan, but there will be ample opportunity to join other runners for motivation, encouragement, and camaraderie.

Training Program FAQs?

What is Final Surge?
Final Surge is an online training log designed for athletes and coaches that streamlines workout management and enables easy synchronization and export of workouts to various platforms.  Additionally, it allows direct communication between coach and athletes as well as a “social team wall” for sharing with the training community.

What is the difference between the three program levels?
Level 1 includes a full set of training plans based on an “average” runner with some experience.
Level 2 includes individualized plans based on a survey of each participant. A full set of training plans that are specifically designed around goals, current fitness, and other parameters are uploaded into each participant’s Final Surge calendar.
Level 3 includes the most customization and athlete/coach communication.  After an initial survey, training plans are added every one to two weeks based on the specific training data from the prior week(s).  This approach allows customized adjustments to training on a week to week basis.  Level 3 also includes on-going access to Coach Marc through electronic communication provided in Final Surge.

What are “virtual community meet-ups?”

Once a month, all participants will be invited to a free Zoom session facilitated by Coach Marc.  There will be time for Q and A as well as specific presentations including topics such as how to get the most out of your GPS watch and Final Surge, gear and training tips for cold weather running, heart-rate training, race strategy, race-day preparation, etc.
